The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) is one of the five regional commissions under the jurisdiction of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, established in 1958 to promote the economic and social development of its member states, foster regional integration, and encourage international cooperation for Africa’s development. Headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, UNECA serves as a key platform for policy dialogue, technical support, and research, addressing critical issues such as trade, industrialization, innovation, climate change, and governance. By leveraging data, knowledge, and partnerships, the Commission plays a strategic role in advancing the continent’s transformation agenda in line with both the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
