Job details:
Association Mwana Ukundwa (AMU) wishes to recruit a full-time Agronomist to serve as a Project Officer for 6 sectors in Gisagara district.
Duties and Responsibilities
The agronomist candidate (Project Officer) is responsible for enabling small-holder farmers grouped into Self-Help Groups and cooperatives to boost food production in various value chains across the district, especially in targeted administrative sectors. The following will be the Responsibilities:
- Provide overall technical leadership in the areas of climate-smart crop production.
- Planning and implementation of all measures related to the crop development way.
- Provide technical advice on climate-smart crop production, crop protection, improved crop production practices, promotion of small-scale irrigation schemes combined with best agronomic practices, and promote high-value crops that provide quick and high returns.
- Participate in conducting field visits to project sites to advise, train, coach, and mentor the farmers about better planting, cultivation, and harvesting techniques, improving crop yield, and solving problems for the successful management of agricultural production operations. Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document financial transactions.
- Coordinate the work of the ToTs and Community Facilitators in his field and ensure their capacity building
- Provide a monthly technical report to the Project Manager
- Network with the government agricultural staff and seek their advice and their support for farmers
These duties and responsibilities may be amended from time to time in the sole discretion of the Employer, subject to formal notification of the same being provided to the Employee.
Minimum required qualifications
- The ideal agronomist candidate should preferably hold a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or other related fields.
- The candidate must have at least 3 years of experience working with communities in food production
- He/she must have high level of language proficiency in English; able to make oral presentations and write clear reports in English.
- He/she must be self-motivated, persistent, resolute and able to deliver without close supervision.
- Must be a good communicator, capable of effectively sharing knowledge and skills gained with others.
- Willingness to travel using a motorcycle throughout program-covered zones and work flexible hours.
- Computer literacy to a high standard in Microsoft Office
- Flexibility, humility, resourcefulness.
- Must hold a Driving license, category A
